RAISING UP AN ARMY—OF HELP

Imagine organizing over 1,000 volunteer shifts and hundreds of people. That’s what Carolyn Chandler and Lisa Catania do every month, displaying endless enthusiasm while feeding off each other’s energy. Your support enables our Volunteer Management team to coordinate all the individuals and groups required to facilitate the Mission’s services.

Even with a loyal volunteer base, Carolyn and Lisa’s biggest challenge is finding enough people to fill all the open shifts. The greatest demands are in our food service operations – grocery distribution and preparing and serving breakfast and lunch each day. Summer is the toughest season to find volunteers.

We love groups! Crews from businesses, schools, churches, and sports teams frequently contact the Mission with a specific date they want to help. Carolyn and Lisa could easily assign busy work, but they are determined to ensure each volunteer has a meaningful experience serving at the Mission. As a result, they often come back again and again.

When people like you rise up to meet the community’s needs, Frederick residents are blessed, as are those who serve. Together with you, volunteers change lives now and for eternity!

“This was the most awesome experience I have had in a very long time! They said they have been extremely busy since the food stamp program was cut back, and more people are in need of their services. I would definitely do this again. ” – Stephanie

“It was great! Everyone was so nice and appreciative of our help! It was awesome to be there and be a part of their process to help those in need. I would definitely go back!” – Sabrina

“We were very impressed with the work Frederick Rescue Mission is doing—hopefully, we can find additional ways to partner. I loved having the opportunity to participate.” – Ashley

“The residents keep smiling and reminding us (that) our help and treating everyone with respect are very important. Again, thank you. Words can’t express how grateful we are.” – Anne

Carol Switzer
Rescued Treasures Coordinator

Carol empowers the volunteers in Rescued Treasures. Together, they provide clothing people need for themselves and their families. Carol also runs Crossed Bridges with her husband Jonathan. She enjoys playing any sport with a ball, crocheting, bike riding, and spending time with her husband and five children.

“He who loves God must love his brother also.” (1 John 4:21) explains what wakes Carol up in the morning to begin a new day; being able to serve the Lord while working with people, whether it be administratively or relationally. She loves hearing the testimonies of how Jesus has changed people’s lives, especially because He’s done so much for her!
