For most of her life, Carol craved a sense of belonging. That deep loneliness led her into years of alcoholism and drug addiction—until Jesus Christ redeemed her life. Through your support of Faith House, Carol finally discovered the community her soul had always needed.
Carol grew up in a churchgoing family, but she never experienced God’s personal love. Her father often came home drunk and angry, and her mother felt distant. Her older sister modeled destructive habits that Carol would later imitate. Though athletic and popular in school, Carol constantly feared rejection and battled anxiety.
At 15, she discovered that alcohol dulled her pain. The very first time she drank, she blacked out—a pattern that continued for years. By 16, her parents had kicked her out. Despite working hard to support herself, she was arrested three times for driving under the influence before turning 21.
At 24, Carol married and became pregnant. She stopped drinking during her pregnancy but relapsed soon after her child’s birth. Her marriage collapsed, and she turned to harder drugs. Carol lost her home and found herself living in her car. Several treatment programs failed to reach the root of her struggle—her deep isolation.
Then tragedy struck: Carol’s sister died of a drug overdose. Shaken and desperate, Carol began running to improve her health. One winter morning, cried out to God in desperation and surrender: “God, please help me. Fill me with love.” In that moment, she felt warmth and peace flood through her body.
At an AA meeting soon after, Carol met Edie Harmon, a staff member from Faith House. Their conversation gave Carol hope for the first time in years. Though she had to maintain sobriety for three months before applying to Faith House, she stayed the course—and eventually was invited to interview.
When Faith House welcomed her in, Carol committed wholeheartedly. In her first three months, she lived in community with other residents, sharing nightly Bible-based devotions that deepened her faith and connection. Later, she moved into an apartment and formed a lasting friendship with her roommate, Maureen.
With guidance and encouragement from Faith House staff, Carol grew confident enough to advance her career—eventually earning a promotion to lead a sales team across the Northeast.
Today, after graduating from Faith House, Carol has a home of her own.
Her life is finally filled with the relationships she once lacked.
She sponsors several women through AA, is active in her church, and has reconciled with her two adult daughters.
Your generosity made Carol’s transformation possible. When you support Faith House, you help women like her find freedom and stability while growing in Jesus’ love and genuine community.
