You helped turn Kiya’s life around. “My life was in shambles. (I was) in active addiction, had no place to go, no one to turn to, and no money. I needed God more than I ever had, but I didn’t know how to reach out.”
Kiya had struggled with addiction for years and recognized she could no longer manage her life. Her little girl Amyah was a bright spot in Kiya’s life, but Amyah’s father also had an addiction, and she needed to break with him. Kyia entered Mountain Manor, an addiction treatment center. There she learned not only how to manage her addiction but how to parent a child.
After Kiya left rehab, she looked for programs that could help her get back on her feet and found that few accept mothers with children. But because of your support, Faith House was available to Kiya. After the staff interviewed her, the mother and daughter moved in. She had been sober for an entire year when she entered Faith House last May.
Kiya and Amyah immediately adapted to their new home.
“When I came here, it was so beautiful. They were so nice. I prayed on it, and it was the very best thing that could have happened in my life.”
The Faith House staff helped Kiya set personal goals and develop a recovery support plan. With their encouragement, Kiya shared her redemption story with two different recovery groups and the Faith House residents. They also taught her more parenting skills.
“When I came here, they showed me what love was. I hadn’t had that in a while. I needed to make a life for me and Amyah. She’s blossomed beautifully since being here.”
Faith House Director Ashley Garland observed that Kiya was servant-hearted, going above and beyond expectations, always volunteering to help others. Ashley and the staff at Faith House started helping Kiya with her education, and they have been impressed with her hard work and determination.
“The number one thing I set up for myself to do is schooling. We are setting out for me to get my GED. My goal is to become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). I’d love to work in the medical field; I love to help people. I could not have asked for a better team to help me here.”
Kiya is overwhelmingly grateful for the support that you and the Faith House team have provided her.
“If I would not have taken this opportunity that they have given me … I don’t think I would have made it. At a certain point in time, I did give up very easily. But over time, I have become very optimistic. Everything that has happened to me since coming to (Faith House) has been God. My relationship with Him has grown so much stronger since being here.”
