Changed Lives Testimonies

“In 1999, I was 32 years old, and I was broke, busted and disgusted. I didn’t know what to do. I’d been an alcoholic and drug addict for 15-16 years. I’d tried many secular programs, and nothing worked. My father dropped me off and the Mission, and he said, ‘Boy, you’d better make this work, ‘cause there’s nothing else. You’ve worn out every welcome.’ That’s where my journey started, and I haven’t had a drink or drug since that day.

Being clean and sober is very important, but it’s just the start. I made peace with God at the Mission.

I submitted myself to Christ there and then. I haven’t even had a compulsion to drink or drug since 1999. God took it away, and it hasn’t come back.” – Mark Stalnaker

“Three years ago, I was trying to drink myself to death. I had done the 12 Steps, but I kept failing. They took me into the Mission on a Saturday evening; I had nowhere else to go. I had nothing but the clothes on my back. I came to the Mission that night and for the first time in a while, I felt safe. Carlton had me read the Psalms; it was very comforting. I kept working at the Mission, and I graduated.

I will be three years sober on December 17. This is the longest I’ve ever been sober in my life!

My salvation is my recovery. You can’t have just the one, you need both. You have to have Christ in your life to make this work.” – Mike Breeden

“When I came to the CLRP I had no idea how to do life. I was hurt, broken, full of shame and guilt, and was on the wide path leading to death. The men in the CLRP taught me how to not just believe in a God, but to live by faith, following after Jesus.

They taught me how to live a life overflowing with grace, mercy, and forgiveness; they restored my life and offered me hope and a new way of living.

There aren’t enough words to sufficiently express the amount of gratitude due to the CLRP for offering me new life in Jesus Christ during my time in the program. God bless the CLRP! ” – Pastor Tony Peterson

“Relationship. I have Relationship with the creator of the universe.

No one in this mission could know the peace and rest I have unless you knew my once chaotic life.

I have empathy for each new resident, and I identify with the love and opportunity that Jesus has for them. Not only the saving of souls, but a transformation and a creation of a life that never existed before. God has made me a father of many sons, and I have the privilege to have the chance to see the possibility of a new life every day; I protect it will all my heart.” – Carlton Hill, CLRP Director
