When Maria arrived in Frederick, she had no idea how she would feed or clothe her children. Thankfully, you provided for her family when they needed help, and today, Maria runs her own business.
After Maria’s husband lost his job, the family moved here from California. They had relatives in Frederick, and they anticipated good job prospects. Her husband did find work quickly, however, they did not anticipate the challenges they would face and soon found themselves with nothing. Maria learned about the Mission, and your generosity provided groceries, diapers, formula, and clothing for her children.
Maria overflows with thankfulness because of your generosity. She says, “I feel gratitude for everything I’ve received. The Mission has changed us. There is not just food and clothing, but peace in this place.”
For five years, Maria ate lunch at the Mission, picked up groceries for her family from our Food Distribution Center, went home to prepare dinner for her family, and got dressed for work. She would then clean buildings all night. Covid reduced her workload, so she started her own business: Frederick Spotless Cleaning. She now has two employees, and her customer base is growing.
Her husband started his own delivery business, and the older children help with their parents’ enterprises. Today Maria volunteers with the Mission’s clothing ministry and helps by making phone calls to Spanish-speaking families. She says the Mission showed her an open heart and open arms. She describes it as the “House of Jesus Christ”. Thanks to you, this family fulfilled their American Dream!
