A New Year’s Message from Arnold Farlow

New Year’s commonly brings resolutions for change. We hope with a new year we can get a new start or least start all over. For sure I’ve got a lot of things I am going to try to change. For the Mission, 2022 will be a year of changed lives.

However, as I approach this new year there are some things I have decided I am not going to change. There also will be some things that the Mission will not change.

This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.’ Jer. 6:16

First, despite what the world thinks, I am not going to change my faith in Jesus Christ. He died on the cross for my sins; He rose from the dead; He purchased my redemption; and He has set me free to live a life of adventure and victory. There is no one like Jesus Christ.

Second, I plan to still live in light of the fact that God created all people equal. No matter how much money, status, power, and charisma a person may have, all have fallen short of the glory of God and need His grace. Everyone should be treated with respect and love, and should be given a second chance.

Lastly, I do not plan on changing my conviction that God changes lives. This is so well stated in the hymn, “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” by Charles Wesley, which says, “He breaks the power of canceled sin, He sets the prisoner free; His blood can make the foulest clean, His blood availed for me.” In Christ there is hope for every situation.

No, in 2022 I do not plan on changing what I know to be true about Christ, how I should care for people regardless of their state in life, and my faith in God’s power to do miracles. The one change I pray for is that I would grow stronger in these things!
