Rescued Treasures Clothing

Modeled after the Christian value of “clothe the naked,” the Mission’s Rescued Treasures program provides shoes and clothing free of charge to those in need. Selections range from day-to-day wear to clothing appropriate for job interviews and worksites.

Guests may shop for clothing once a month. We do not require proof of need – only an ID for identification purposes. Our doors are open to all whom God calls us to serve.

Hours
Tuesday – Friday: 1 – 3:30pm
No appointment is necessary, and guests may shop on a first come, first serve basis.

If you are an organization and have multiple needs for clothing and shoes, please reach out directly to Carol Switzer at cswitzer@therescuemission.org.

John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

Luke 3:11

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.

Psalm 41:1

The Mission accepts new and gently used clothing, shoes, linens, sheets, and textiles during business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm) at the Rescued Treasures building located at the first driveway entrance, or in the main lobby. Donors can ask to receive a tax receipt at that time. We also accept clothing at any of our convenient drop box locations around the Frederick area.

The Mission ONLY accepts new and gently used clothing, shoes, linens, sheets, and textiles.

Please note that we cannot accept furniture, toys, books, household goods, etc. We do not have the space on our campus to accommodate these items.

Clothing, textiles, and shoes that are too well used to be given away are taken to our storage facility to be recycled and eventually sold by weight to distributors who ship them to countries overseas that need them. All proceeds from these sales are returned to the Mission and used to fund the many programs we offer. The Mission is privately funded so we carefully utilize every donation from the community to operate our programs and services. In addition, approximately one million pounds of textiles are saved from the landfill every year!

When items are “dumped” at the Mission or beside our Blue Donation Bins around the region, this puts a financial burden on the Mission because we must pay to dispose of them.

Frederick County offers many opportunities to donate most anything. A few resources are noted below. Check out their donation pages for what they can accept and how to donate it.

Carol Switzer
Rescued Treasures Coordinator

Carol empowers the volunteers in Rescued Treasures. Together, they provide clothing people need for themselves and their families. Carol also runs Crossed Bridges with her husband Jonathan. She enjoys playing any sport with a ball, crocheting, bike riding, and spending time with her husband and five children.

“He who loves God must love his brother also.” (1 John 4:21) explains what wakes Carol up in the morning to begin a new day; being able to serve the Lord while working with people, whether it be administratively or relationally. She loves hearing the testimonies of how Jesus has changed people’s lives, especially because He’s done so much for her!
