2020 has been a year of challenges and blessings at the Mission. But through God’s faithful provision, we have served more of our neighbors than ever before. Our George L. Shields Bread of Life Kitchen provided to-go meals on campus for breakfast and lunch, and for those housed in area shelters. The Food Distribution Center pivoted to preassembled food boxes and bagged groceries, while also expanding the number of food banks and partners from 11 to more than 21. The FDC also helped other community groups expand their reach in order to get food to those in need.
In addition to our food ministries, the Rescued Treasures Clothing Ministry experienced a thorough renovation of both its building and program. We completed much-needed repairs to the building and restructured the process of clothing distribution, both of which allow us to better serve our guests and increase our ability to recycle items that are not in reusable condition.
The Changed Life Recovery Program (CLRP) and Faith House ministries continued to provide critical services to men, women, and children. CLRP celebrated two graduations for men completing the program, marking a milestone in their journey with Christ and toward recovery. And Faith House celebrated the opening of the Transitional Living Program apartments, quickly using these new spaces to house the women and children in the 90-day shelter program in a socially distant environment. Faith House also welcomed two new babies and congratulated two new homeowners.
All of the blessings at the Mission during this difficult year have come through God’s abundant provision and the continuing support of local funders and donors. We continue to see God at work in the lives of our neighbors and residents in need. As we continue to bring hope to others through the love of Christ, will you prayerfully consider a gift to further God’s work and reach in 2021?
